ABOUT

“At Sunday Run Club, our mission is to build stronger communities through consistent movement, mutual encouragement, and inclusive access to wellness. We believe running is more than a sport — it’s a vehicle for personal growth, connection, and positive social change. Whether you’re a first-time runner or a seasoned athlete, we invite you to start where you are and run because you can.”

OUR STORY

Sunday Run Club was founded on February 4, 2024, by Scott Slotnick, with the mission to use running as a tool for connection, purpose, and positive change. What began as a small weekly meet-up among local runners quickly evolved into a growing community rooted in support, consistency, and giving back.Scott started the club after experiencing how running transformed his own life—providing direction, discipline, and a sense of belonging during a time when he needed it most. He saw an opportunity to create something bigger: a space where others could experience that same sense of growth and connection, regardless of pace, background, or experience level.Today, Sunday Run Club does more than just run. We meet weekly for group runs that welcome all levels, support each other’s race goals—from 5Ks to 100-mile ultramarathons—and offer free learning events that cover training, injury prevention, nutrition, and mindset. We provide coaching advice, mentorship, and encouragement to anyone who shows up with the desire to start. We’re especially passionate about making running accessible for families and new parents. Our stroller runs create a welcoming space for parents to stay active while bonding with their kids and meeting others in similar stages of life. But our mission goes beyond the miles.Sunday Run Club is deeply committed to community impact. We regularly organize donation drives for running gear and shoes, host free events in underserved areas, and partner with local organizations to support youth, schools, and parks. Through our Run It Forward initiative, we’re building programs that provide running shoes, race entries, and coaching to those who otherwise wouldn’t have access. We believe everyone deserves a chance to experience what running can do—physically, mentally, and emotionally. As we grow, so does our vision: to create a ripple effect of hope, health, and resilience—one step, one runner, and one community at a time.Whether you’re looking for your first mile or your next ultramarathon, Sunday Run Club is here to meet you where you are—and run beside you from there

MEET OUR TEAM

SCOTT SLOTNICK - PRESIDENT

Scott Slotnick began his personal running journey in October 2019, during a period of his life marked by aimlessness and a lack of direction. With the initial goal of simply completing a marathon, Scott committed himself to change—and five years later, he has maintained a four-year daily running streak and completed multiple ultramarathons, including a 100-mile race.Driven by his own experience, Scott created Sunday Run Club to support individuals who may feel lost or uncertain about their path. Through running, he aims to show others what’s possible when you set goals, stay disciplined, and believe in yourself. Today, he is committed to making running accessible to all by hosting free community events and using the club as a platform to give back.

JAMES BERCHENI - SECRETARY

James Bercheni didn’t start running to chase medals — he started to stay out of trouble. He joined his high school cross country team not knowing it would plant a seed that would grow years later. Life got busy after high school, and running took a back seat. But in 2022, when his wife invited him to join her for the Big House 5K, something clicked. The spark reignited. Since then, James has completed dozens of 5Ks and, in 2024, proudly crossed the finish line of his first half marathon. It also helps him keep up with his 2 year old toddler. What keeps James going isn’t just the miles — it’s the people. He finds the real joy in helping others discover their own strength, set bold goals, and feel the unmatched satisfaction of crossing a finish line, big or small. Sunday Run Club was born out of that belief: that anyone can be a runner, and no one has to run alone.

NICK ROMANOWSKI - TREASURER

Born and raised downriver, I’m proof that friendship and a good pair of running shoes can take you a long way—literally. Scott, Sunday Run Club’s fearless president, has been my lifelong friend, partner-in-miles, and occasional bad-idea co-conspirator (like “Let’s run how far?”). I started running in 2018 to improve my mental and physical health, and somewhere between the first awkward jog and the finish line of my first ultra, I discovered a deep love for the sport and the community it builds.Since then, I’ve tackled a 50k and a 50-mile ultramarathon, and even paced Scott for 67 miles during his 100-mile adventure—because nothing says friendship like keeping someone moving at 3 a.m. on blistered feet. Together, we launched Sunday Run Club, where I serve as treasurer and Scott’s official pacer. Whether I’m balancing the books or the pace, I’m here to keep our miles fun, our spirits high, and our coffee cups full.
